Landscape design

Landscape design is the fusion of gardening and architecture to increase the appeal of a home. Landscape design is a profession, but that should not intimidate do-it-yourselfers that want to attempt a landscape project of their own.

The Elements as your Guide

There are five elements of landscape design that can be used as your guide when attempting a landscape project on your own. The five elements are: color, line, form, texture and scale. Each of the elements are intertwined.
The five elements are then spread out into seven principles: unity, balance, transition, proportion, rhythm, focalization and repetition.
While the elements of landscape design should be used as a guide, it is not a must. You can choose which elements are most important for you to focus on and go from there.

Do Your Homework

One of the best ways to decide what type of landscape design project to pursue is to look around. Browse the internet for ideas or take photos of landscaping that you see that intrigues you. This will help you to truly get an idea of what you are looking for.

Create a Theme

One suggestion for creating a landscape design is to think ofa theme. Once you decide what type of landscaping you appreciate, think about what you would want to use as a theme. Themes can range from butterflies to oriental.

Color Choice

The colors that you choose to use in your landscaping can attract the eye to a specific area, make certain areas of your landscaping seem closer or farther away from you or increase the depth of your landscaping.
It is very easy to be overwhelmed by landscaping design, the most important thing to remember is to do your research and when you feel completely overwhelmed just remember that less is more.
